Modafinil is used to treat sleep related problems such as narcolepsy, work-related sleep disorders or excessive sleepiness in the morning. This drug is also commonly used for problems associated with obstructive sleep apnea.

Modafinil is a central stimulant chemically related to adrafinil. It is used in the treatment of excessive daytime sleepiness associated with the narcoleptic syndrome, obstructive sleep apnoea and shift-work sleep disorder.

It is very popular as a nootropic (study drug), as well as for the other off-label uses such as ADHD, depression, chronic fatigue syndrome, parkinsons disease, firomyalgia, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, and even weight loss.

Modafinil is a wakefulness promoting drug used for the treatment of disorders such as narcolepsy, shift work sleep disorder, and excessive daytime sleepiness associated with obstructive sleep apnea. It is thought to work by altering the natural chemicals (neurotransmitters) in the brain. It is used to treat excessive sleepiness caused by sleep apnea, narcolepsy, or shift work sleep disorder.

For the treatment of the narcoleptic syndrome or obstructive sleep apnoea, modafinil is given orally in a dose of 200 to 400 mg daily, in two divided doses, in the morning and at midday, or as a single dose in the morning. For the treatment of shift-work sleep disorder, the daily dose is 200 mg taken as a single dose 1 hour before starting work. An initial dose of 100 mg daily should be used in the elderly and adjusted as necessary.
